THE EDUCATION FORUM - “Opening Doors to Success": Ensuring Access to Education for Pregnant and Parenting Students
Are you interested in learning how your school or agency can provide the supports needed for teen parents to complete their high school education? Does your school comply with Title IX and our state’s law on Education for Pregnant and Parenting Students? Do you want to learn about effective partnerships and programs that decrease barriers and improve educational success and graduation rates for teen parents?
APPCNC invites you to attend The Education Forum on April 11, 2008, and join with community advocates, legislators, educators and experts to create a plan to help pregnant and parenting teens succeed in school.
When: Friday, April 11, 2008
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Where: The Carolina Center for Educational Excellence, 9201 Seawell School Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27517
Cost: $40 (includes light breakfast and lunch)
Jocelyn Samuels from the National Women’s Law Center will share findings from their report, When Girls Don’t Graduate, We All Fail: A Call to Improve High School Graduation Rates for Girls. Although dropout rates are rising in North Carolina and one-third of teen parents fail to receive a high school diploma, there are effective community partnerships in our state that provide support services and result in teen parents successfully completing their education. Join with us in this campaign to improve high school graduation for young parents, by removing barriers, providing supportive services, and improving access to quality education. Because investing in young families is something we all believe in.
