Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of NC

Annual Conference: NSFW: Turning Unmentionables Into Prevention

4 Comment(s) | Event on

Conference Dates: May 14 - 16, 2014

In Internet lingo, “NSFW” means Not Safe for Work – something that’s generally too risqué to be viewed in an office setting. So what does NSFW have to do with a teen pregnancy prevention conference?

Our jobs require us to push limits and address topics that some – even some of us – find controversial, taboo, or just irrelevant. Some don’t think that 18-19-year-olds “count” as teens. Some of us are uncomfortable talking about pornography. We may be afraid to acknowledge adolescent sexuality as something normal – or even positive. And then there are some topics so heartbreaking – human trafficking, sexual violence, drug abuse – that it can feel too overwhelming to talk about them at all.

This year’s conference aims to make these conversations entirely safe – and entirely routine – for our work in adolescent pregnancy prevention and sexual health. We hope you are as excited to begin them as we are.

    I am very interested in teen pregnancy prevention as well as this conference. Would this conference be geared strictly towards the advancement of teen pregnancy prevention in North carolina? I work in Virginia.

    I am interested in someone coming to speak to teen girls in my county. I have never heard of a pregnancy session given in my county. Could someone come to give a session on teen pregnancy? I am also interested in coming to the annual conference in May.

    @Brittany Watson,

    I have been to this conference the past 2 years in a row and found it very helpful/relevant and I am a pregnancy prevention educator in Tennessee. There are some NC specific workshops, but you can avoid those and go to more general ones! I highly recommend this conference, it is an amazing experience!

    I am a doctoral student at Liberty University. I am also a mother of 6, and had my first child at 18. I am doing my dissertation on the 2% of teen mothers who go on to graduate college by age 30. I am interested in why these women were able to overcome the barriers and obstacles, while 98% are not. I am one of those success stories, and feel I can be a wealth of knowledge. I would love to be apart of your conference. I know I am late, but I just learned of this event. Thank you!
