We are ready and able to work with you to help you understand and implement the requirements of the Healthy Youth Act.
APPCNC has 25 years of experience in helping local communities develop and implement effective pregnancy prevention programs. We currently work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement science-based approaches to pregnancy prevention across the state. APPCNC is equipped to help with program selection and implementation, and can provide training in some of the best evidence-based curricula available.
If you are interested in partnering with APPCNC to implement an effective sexuality education program in your area, please contact Sally Swanson at (919) 226-1880.
Local Schools Implementation Guidebook
We have created a guidebook to help local schools understand the Healthy Youth Act. The guidebook includes the law’s requirements, as well as implementation tips that draw on our 25 years of experience in building effective prevention programs. You are welcome to print and replicate this guidebook if you need to. For a higher resolution file, please contact Elizabeth Finley at (919) 226-1880.
Healthy Youth Act Workshop PowerPoint (PDF)
We have worked with many school systems directly to present a brief overview of the Healthy Youth Act. This PowerPoint presentation is the same one we have used with groups across North Carolina.
NC DPI's Healthful Living Resources Section
The NC Department of Public Instruction offers official guidelines for implementation, as well as links to other resources to help schools and administrators understand and fulfill implementation requirements.
NCSBA's Sample Opt-Out Policy
The North Carolina School Board Association has developed a sample policy for local boards to use in developing a mechanism for a parent to opt his or her student out of Reproductive Health and Safety Education. Local school boards must adopt such a policy to comply with the requirements of the law.
