An overview of the issues of adolescent sexuality and pregnancy. Topics covered include the statistics and trends in adolescent behavior, the evaluation of pregnancy prevention programs, and the issues of adolescent health care. Lecture format. 3 Hours.

EVALUATION ESSENTIALS

A presentation covering the necessity and the means for solid evaluation of adolescent pregnancy prevention programs, as well as some of the latest research on which prevention programs work. Presented by Dr. Susan Philliber, Philliber Research Associates. Lecture format. 6 hours.

HISPANIC OUTREACH

The goal of Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of North Carolina’s Hispanic Outreach Network is to ensure that North Carolina’s Hispanic teens and their families have access to effective adolescent pregnancy prevention programs and services, thereby reducing the teen pregnancy rate for this group.

Hispanic Outreach Network offers technical assistance to community councils, schools, state-funded adolescent pregnancy prevention projects, faith communities, and youth organizations.

APPCNC’s resource center makes prevention program curricula, cultural competency materials, and educational videos available for loan to all professionals who are working with Latino teens and their families.


"LET'S TALK" MONTH AND TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION MONTH

Two statewide campaigns offered in October and May, respectively, by decree of
the Governor's Office. "Let's Talk" Month seeks to convey an important message: parents are the primary sexuality educators of their children. This responsibility is fulfilled through increased communication between parents and their children about sexuality and related issues. Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month is directed at helping organizations and individuals focus on innovative strategies to address adolescent pregnancy prevention. Various activities are suggested for use in local communities, with ideas and resources supplied by the Coalition.

MALE INVOLVEMENT NETWORK

Offers technical assistance to encourage professionals to reach out to
the young men in their communities and provide pregnancy prevention/male responsibility services and fatherhood support programs tailored to their needs. MIN meetings introduce effective curricula and program models and provide opportunities for networking and resource sharing among professionals.

REGIONAL MEETING

In response to common concerns, meetings are put together based on current trends
and programs in adolescent pregnancy prevention. Lecture/discussion format. 3 hours.

STATEWIDE CONFERENCE

Hear and take home the most current information on adolescent pregnancy prevention. Various workshops held.

TEEN PARENT NETWORK

Offers technical assistance to strengthen programs and services for pregnant and parenting teens and their families. Conducts trainings and convenes TPN meetings that showcase promising models, educate on critical issues and offer an opportunity for professionals to share program ideas and network with each other.
