Background:
Since 2001, the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of North Carolina has partnered with agencies across the state for Adolescent Health Advocacy Day (AHAD). The purpose of AHAD is to call legislative attention to youth health issues.
This year’s AHAD issues:
Improve Adolescents’ Physical Health:
--Improve Adolescents’ Physical Activity
--Reduce Use of Tobacco Products by Adolescents
Enhance Bullying Awareness and the Impact it Has on Youth
Provide Access to Medically Accurate, Comprehensive Sexuality and HIV Education
Provide Adolescents with Improved Access to Healthcare:
--Access to School-Based, School-Linked Health Care
--Access to Improved Mental Health Care
Ensure Sufficient Funding for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention
2008 Adolescent Health Advocacy Day: AHAD will take place via videoconference on March 5, 2008 from 3:00-5:00 pm at locations across North Carolina; the primary broadcast site will be at the Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh. Teen speakers will present each health issue along with the recommendations.
